About our Candles

DIRECTIONS FOR MASSAGE:

Our Massage Candles are perfect as a invigorating candle, body moisturiser or body massage oil. You can also use it unmelted as a body balm.

Light the candle and wait until the wax has melted into a natural massage oil. We recommend that you let the candle burn for at least 20-30 minutes. Extinguish the candle and check whether the temperature is pleasant, before pouring the melted wax onto your body. Gently massage the luxurious oil into the skin. This natural massage oil is made with ecologically certified Shea Butter and moisturising oils.  Rinse with water in case of an allergic reaction.

When lit, the AMAKHI massage candle melts into a warm massage oil. This oil of natural butters can then be drizzled over the skin for a soulful massage treatment to ease away tension and nourish your skin.

WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO BURN AMAKHI CANDLES?

CREATE A BURN MEMORY

Our recommended burn time is 2-3 hours.

When lighting your candle for the first time, it is important that you burn the candle for long enough to allow the wax to melt all the way to the sides of the jar.  This will give you maximum fragrance and an even burn  the longer the burn, the bigger the melt pool will be (this hot melt pool is what gives off the beautiful fragrance from our candles). Fun fact: the technical term for how strong your candle smells is throw. If your candle does not burn long enough you may have wax building along the sides of the jar, which is called tunneling...that’s another fun fact for you.

TRIM THE WICK

Soy wax does not burn as hot as paraffin wax does, so we use a thicker wick which needs to be trimmed regularly. Always trim your wick to about to 1/4 of an inch (that’s about half a centimeter) before each lighting to prevent wick curling. Trim your wick with a simple finger pinch or by using scissors or a wick trimmer (if you’re fancy).

If you do not trim the wick regularly, you may get a “mushroom” of carbon on the end of the wick. This may cause some soot to collect on the inside of the container. If this happens, extinguish your candle, wait for it to cool, wipe off the carbon marks with a clean damp cloth or tissue paper and re-light. But be sure not to over trim your wick as you may not be able to re-light your candle.

OTHER USEFUL TIPS & TRICKS

  • Extinguish your candle by putting the lid on the jar or by dipping the wick into the melted wax and straighten. This will stop the wick smoking and will help with re-lighting the next time.
  • Never leave a candle burning unattended or within reach of pets, or small children. Your candle jar will be hot after burning, so allow wax to cool before handling.
  • If you are not using your candle. Then store away in a cool, dry place, away from direct light and heat.

Please remember that our candles are hand poured, not massed produced. Although all effort is made to ensure consistency, every candle will be unique. The top of your candle may also appear slightly uneven, this is also a sign of natural soy wax being hand poured.

When using completely natural soy wax, sometimes you may notice darker patches or wet spots in your container candles. This is not a fault, simply a small blemish where the wax has not adhered to the glass 100%. This does not effect the candle in any way.

WHY SOY WAX?

We’re glad you asked, this is not just a fad!

  • Melts and blends well with oils which makes it perfect for our massage candles.
  • 100% vegetable and certified kosher made from pure soybean oil.
  • burns cleaner and longer than candles made with paraffin wax. Emits free of toxins and carcinogens.
  • Natural, biodegradable, free from pesticides and herbicides and also GMO free.
  • Free from animal testing

  • HOW IS SOY WAX MADE?

Soy wax is a vegetable wax made from the oil of soybeans. After harvesting, the beans are cleaned, cracked and dried in flakes. The hydrogenation process alters the melting point of the oil, which is why it is solid at room temperature. The leftover bean husks are usually used as animal feed.

ARE YOUR CANDLES VEGAN? DO YOU OR YOUR SUPPLIERS TEST ON ANIMALS?

Our candles and fragrances are considered vegan. We definitely do not test on animals and do not purchase from suppliers who test on animals.

CAN I RECYLE OR REPURPOSE MY JARS?

We’re so glad you asked this question and that you care about helping the environment by reusing your products. There short answer is "Hell Yes"! There are two ways to clean your candle jars once you’ve finished enjoying them. Method 1: place your candle in the freezer until the wax hardens, then chip out the wax. Wash the jar with warm, soapy water. Method 2: place your candle in a warm oven and allow the wax to liquify. Carefully pour the wax out and wash the jar with warm, soapy water.

Some ideas for repurposing your jars:
as small planters for succulents, storing pens and paint brushes (our personal favourite), as shot glasses (cheers) or simply take them to your nearest glass recycling station.
